Matt Seigel
VP of Finance & Operations
Journey Community Schools

Matt Seigel is a public education leader with more than 25 years of experience advancing educational equity and organizational excellence. As Vice President of Finance and Operations for Memphis-based Journey Community Schools, he oversees finance, human resources, technology, data systems, and operational strategy. Guided by the belief that every child deserves access to an exceptional education, Matt is committed to ensuring that a student's ZIP code is never a predictor of their opportunities or life outcomes.

Matt began his career as an elementary school teacher in Compton, California, before joining Aspire Public Schools as a founding lead teacher at Antonio Maria Lugo Academy, Aspire's first school in Los Angeles. Following his original cohort of students as they progressed through the grades, he helped launch Aspire's middle and high school programs, serving as a founding administrator and ultimately as high school principal. In 2013, Matt relocated to Memphis to lead regional work in data and assessment, information systems, teacher evaluation, state testing, and academic operations, later serving as Managing Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for Aspire's Memphis region.

In 2020, Matt assumed his current role during a transformative period marked by both the COVID-19 pandemic and Journey Community Schools' transition from Aspire to an independent, locally governed organization. He led the implementation of new accounting, payroll, student information, and data visualization systems that established the operational foundation for Journey's next chapter. Today, he oversees budgeting, financial strategy, procurement, contracts, compliance, and organizational operations. His experience as a teacher and school leader continues to inform his work in building systems that support students, educators, and communities. Outside of work, Matt enjoys playing the drums, reading, following soccer, and spending time with his family.
